A couple of Spotted Somethings? I'm sure there are good reasons to
criticize the Sierra Club (e.g. how you feel about breaching dams),
but you're not giving much to base a reasoned opinion on. In any case
it's easier for planners to specify a more expensive solution to traffic
problems, than it is for wildlife to adapt to rapid growth.

You're right that SC has an epic history of pulling issues from the left.
But I don't buy the equation of conservation with misanthropy. In the case
you're describing, it sounds more like a choice between wildlife habitat
and cheap convenience for drivers.

Still, it's good to point out that the Sierra Club isn't a hook-and-bullet
conservation group.
