I was looking over your Wee Lassie II earlier today ... very handsome indeed! I was glad to see you had used some flat grain strips. I wasn't quite sure how chaotic the exposed grain would appear. Personaly to my eye, although flat grain strips look quite nice when they're used moderatly, such as you did ... I don't think I could handle the busyness of all that chaotic grain on my kayak if I used flat grain for everything. So, I think I'll take a closer look at Redwood. Besides, looking for suitable Cedar locally is quickly turning into a time consuming and frustrating task ... I wanna get started on the darn thing, not speed weeks on the phone and driving around to lumber yards! BTW Ross, you've a great site, I've learned a lot from it!

: Here in Ohio, I've only ever found redwood locally, and I've used it on a
: couple boats. The hull of this Wee Lassie II is all redwood (even the
: light bands). It is darker than most cedar, but I think it looks great.
