Arthur, My canoe interior has only the saturation coat only, no fill coats. This left a textured nonslip surface. The canoe has seen lots of use over 6 years with no signs of strength related problems. Keep in mind that epoxy fills much better than varnish. If there is any doubt about the weave being completely filled, I'd give it another coat. Don't fall into the trap of saving yourself a little time and effort. The results of your efforts are going to be enjoyed for years to come!
