5 second solution: use 3/16 staples

Simply staple the lift strap to the inside of the hatch.

With or without the glue.

Two or three staples should hold the strap securely for a long, long time.

If your hatch is 1/4 inch thick, use 3/16 staples or shorter.

Fold over the end of the strap so it is a double thickness ehre you drive in the staples. This gives a neater end to the strap and the added thickness help keep the staple from going all the way through the wood.
