: Recently i purchased a used camper shell for my Toyota truck. I'm not sure
: what truck model it was designed for but it doesnt quite fit. The length
: is perfect but the width is too wide. I have a 2 inch overhang on each
: side. I've been thinking of cutting it lengthwise and removing the
: offending 4 inches. It is a mass produced fibergalss camper shell and i'm
: not sure what kind of glass to use to "weld" it back together.
: It appears to use a heavy type of mat or roving. Any suggestion on what
: would be a good type of material to use???????? Thanks in advance. P.S. I
: purchased it used for 60 bucks, locally the new price is $1200.00. So if I
: dont do anything it still does the job.

If you really want to do all the work, it will probably be a lot stronger if you back up the inside with a wide strip of aluminum plate (wood could also work) about 3-4" wide and bolt thru the top with flat head machine screws and nuts (stainless steel). If you leave a gap at the joint, it could be filled with thickened epoxy. The seam could then be covered with glass cloth starting at 6-8" wide with narrower strips on top of that. The bolted thru aluminum strip should give the strength and the glass over filled seam would add more strength and as well as seal everything. The final blending and painting will determine how good it looks.
BTW/ what are you doing about the front window and the rear hatch lid?
