In Response To: Stainless Steel Deck Fitting Model Pictures (Andreas Albat)

: Hi everyone,

: Attached is the link to a couple of pictures for the model of the stainless
: steel fitting. This particular fitting is designed for 3/16 bungees, i.e.
: the slot is only 3/16 wide. The pin is inserted after the machining and
: slightly expanded for a press fit. It will be glued in from the inside of
: the deck with thickened epoxy and a fillet to provide a smooth transition
: to the deck.

You better get out the receipt book for that one. What a nice slim minimal fitting!

To save weight, I'd suggest removing the back chamfers, making the fitting back as minimal as the front, making the base more elliptical(just cut the corners), knurling the back and putting microbaloon epoxy for the chamfer. Glass over all. Carefull the upper edges not too high or sharp.

But what I'm saying is, they're too nice. So for wt, could you do them in titanium? or aluminum? or bronze? too.

And w/ such slim lines, you could do multiples really easily, whether side by side or inline.

What if you set the rod down say 1/4 in or the strip depth, the rod was actually a 1in long bolt, the holes in the fitting were threaded, and a knurled(ss)nut was in the slot. So you rub the nut back and forth with you thumb and the bolt rod goes back and forth. Place this around the perimeter, either in or out of any hatch w/ little corresponding holes in the opposite side, and you've got some interesting hatch seales. If you can machine this fitting, you can surely machine a female flanged one for the opposite side as well.

You'd get flush, structural hatches.

I just knew we'd all end up in envy.
