I use a water based wood filler for any gaps large enough to need filling. On the inside you don't have to worry about color matching. I don't allow gaps on the outside.

Pin holes (staples or other) are another problem entirely and need very careful consideration. The remedy is simple and should be a part of all stripper glassing procedure. Only seal coat and wet-out glass with FALLING temperatures. This will cause air AND RESIN to be pulled into the wood pores.

Failure to do this can leave pin holes in the surface that you will NEVER close. Pin holes get into the dynamic physics of surface tensions and you don't want to go there.

So, if you've been relying on dumb luck to get it right, don't chance you’re luck again. Consciously work with the temperature dropping during your first two resin coats no matter if that is seal coat or glass wet-out.

All the best,
Rob
