I found the Wally to be a pretty quick build. I'd agree with Rehd on the plywood for forms. To shorten the forms you'll need some kind of strongback or table to work on (or need to spend a lot of time on your knees :-) Once you read the book you will see that GP leaves a lot of room for customizing the boat. One area you should modify is the cockpit. For ocean paddling you probably want something you can put a skirt on. Also keep in mind you will need (should have) some float bags too. If I were to build one again, I would probably opt for a polyester skin over Putz's canvas. It will be much lighter. Mike Hanks just finished a very nice version this way. He has also finished this boat design in plywood, making a much more robust boat.
