I don't understand either. I had a 26 foot saiboat made from Doug Fir plywood. It was in the water all the time. The resin adheared just fine. There was no noticable intrusion of water. If you store the kayak out of the water that shouldn't be a factor anyway. More strength, maybe so, I don't know but one wonders if it would be a problem.
