I've seen some commercial vinyl flooring (what we used to call linoleum) which does not have a pattern making it look like floor tiles. It is designed to be waxed (even if they call it wax free), and is very flexible so removing the fiberglas/resin from it should be easier.

but if you are going for simplicity, why not just stretch a piece of Saran wrap over things, and forget the wax. You could use polyester resin, too, and save some money.
