Steve - On the white glue residue from Titebond II - I believe you are seeing "chalking". From the Titebond website http://www.titebond.com -

" Chalking

Chalky white appearance of a layer of glue which has dried too cold. A
glue which dries below this critical "chalk point" does not knit together
properly and the resulting bond is likely to fail."

I lifted this right from their glossary, after seeing the tech spec for chalk point, which was listed as 55 deg. F for Titebond II.

Looks like you need some supplemental heating in your shop. Not only the glue, but the air and work should be above the chalk point for a good joint.
