Sure, the scraper did it! Every time Rehd gets disponent his tools attack him.

"Fine Woodworking" current issue, or last had an article on this tool. Once you get the hang of it you'll find it very useful for all kinds of finishing. You'll need a curved one for interior hull work. These scrapers can be made from worn out/unused hand saw blades. Particularly those stupid Stanley's with the "hardened" teeth that can't be re-sharpened. Just don't turn your back on 'em.
