I'd like to ditto Alex's advice. I too have used a lot of Schooner 96 (an Interlux product). It is a great all around varnish and recommended by Rebecca Whitman, who wrote one of the best books out there on brightwork for boats (she varnishes professionally in the Seattle area). Like Alex, I actually prefer Epifanes for it's thickness and richness, and it has become my varnish of choice for most things. But I agree that it is a bit harder to work with. You won't go wrong with any of the top names in boat varnishes. Much of it beyond that is a matter of personal preference.
