: I was leaning towards buying the Porter Cable Quicksand ROS sander at a sale
: price of $59 with a 2.4 amp motor. But yesterday I was in Wal-Mart and saw
: the Black & Decker ROS sanders at $30 with a 2 amp motor. Both have
: speeds of 12,000. I checked the price of the B&D online and found it
: ranged from $41 to $53 plus shipping. The only disavantage I see would be
: the B&D would heat up faster because of the smaller motor. Any reason I
: shouldn't buy the B&D.

I think the messages in this thread echo my experience. B&D made quality products until they cheapened them to enter the post WWII home consumer market. While their "professional" line (now Dewalt)is comparible to other manufacturer's, I have had problems with switches and power cords. I've had better luck with Bosch and Porter Cable. Fine Woodworking mag has had some good reviews of power tools in the last few years you might like to get your hands on.
