In Response To: Two types of Minicell foam? (Brian Nystrom)

: One thing I've noticed recently is that there seems to be two types of
: minicell foam commonly sold for outfitting kayaks.

There are two grades even of the plain gray minicel.
L-200 and M-200. L-200 is softer, M-200 is stiffer and easier to shape.

: I've got some grey/white swirl patterned foam (from Harmony?) that's quite
: firm and carves/sands beautifully. It's a joy to work with. I've also seen
: this in other swirl colors (such as lime green/purple - YUCK!). I believe
: it is sold primarily for outfitting whitewater boats.

: I've also got some solid grey minicell that's softer and more rubbery. It's
: great for padding, but it tears and shreds when you use dragon skin on it.
: It can be rough shaped with a Sureform tool and it can be fine sanded
: (slowly and tediously), but overall, it's more of a pain to work with. I
: suspect that this is what Spidey used and why he had trouble with tearout.

: Anyone one else have similar experiences?
