Two types of Minicell foam?

In Response To: Minicell foam sources? I've got the bug... (Mark Woodhead)

One thing I've noticed recently is that there seems to be two types of minicell foam commonly sold for outfitting kayaks.

I've got some grey/white swirl patterned foam (from Harmony?) that's quite firm and carves/sands beautifully. It's a joy to work with. I've also seen this in other swirl colors (such as lime green/purple - YUCK!). I believe it is sold primarily for outfitting whitewater boats.

I've also got some solid grey minicell that's softer and more rubbery. It's great for padding, but it tears and shreds when you use dragon skin on it. It can be rough shaped with a Sureform tool and it can be fine sanded (slowly and tediously), but overall, it's more of a pain to work with. I suspect that this is what Spidey used and why he had trouble with tearout.

Anyone one else have similar experiences?
