How do you remove old varnish to recoat?

I used Epiphanes no-sand, and it takes a dimple from a thunbnail, also takes scratches and dings, I want it gone.
I want to redo the boat with a 2-part varnish from c-spar.
Hopefully someone has a better idea than sanding. Please share it if true.
