Tom - How about an Adirondack guide boat? Newfound Woodworks sells plans and kits; I built mine from scratch using the book "The Adirondack Guide Boat". This boat design was originally used in the 19th and early 20th century by guides in the Adirondack mountain area of New York. It was built by the guides themselves, and was light, sturdy, and reliable. The originals had ribs, but strip building without ribs has become popular. The boat is fast and quiet. email me if you want more details. - John
