In Response To: rudder (Matt)

: Just a few questions. I'm considering putting a rudder system on my double
: sea kayak. The transom is raked from the keel to the deck at about 15 deg.
: Does the fact that the rudder would end up entering the water a few inches
: or so behind the transom at the waterline present any sort of problem,
: dynamics perhaps? Also does anyone have any neat solutions for this
: problem. Next question, currently I've a fixed skeg, if I put a rudder on
: do I need to lose the skeg? Any info or resources on rudder and pedal
: mechanisms would be great. Cheers!

I uses Prijons pedals and they works great. It ís smart to buy the pedals. The rudder mechanism is rather easy to make yourself special the blade. I used 6mm industrial pneumatic plastic pipes to run the rudder line (3mm) thru. The line must be very stiff. lines that you hoist sails with works nice. If the kayak is hard to turn or turns from the wind you can remove the skeg.
