Hi Paul,

I think you might want to consider kevlar cloth layup, or possibly mixing graphite with epoxy. Ive done neither but have read more than once that these two things can add strength to your hull.

Dont overblow the plastic yaks durability - it IS very heavy. My brothers 12' rotomold weighs in at about 50 lbs. Moreover, sopme reading I've done regarding rotomolded boats [polyethelene?] is that over time they lose their durability, fade and become brittle.

Fiberglass is nice but patching up gelcoat isnt something I'd want to tackle. Mind you, not that its difficult, but that it SHOWS so obviously wear you patched it.

Stick with wood... repairs are a LOT easier. Afterall.... you built it from scratch anyway didnt you?
