I associate the use of deck compasses with large bodies of water, ie: oceans, very large lakes etc. I live on the Canadian prairies where the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic oceans, and Gulf of Mexico are all equally distant from my door step. Again, I'm looking for clean uncluttered deck lines.
