Leigh Valley Tools sells rare earth magnets that are EXTREMELY strong, in various diameters. Has anyone thought of using these as part of a hatch-sealing mechanism?

: I had considered the dzus fasteners myself, but, was concerned that they
: would leak. Anything that has a moving part outside to inside HAS to have
: clearance, and therefore would allow leakage.

: I was considering the Europian style, cabinet, touch latches, that you press
: on and they pop open, then press on them again and they close. The concern
: there would be just how much pressure you could get away with, before they
: popped open on you when trying a wet resque. And what material you would
: use for your seals to allow you about 1/8th " compression and still
: maintain a good seal. Would have to be soft and restore to original shape
: instantly. If possible, you could just put both hands on the hatch, press
: down with one firm little push and they would pop up in your hands. Then,
: another firm push and they would pop into the sealed position. All the
: hatch materials would be located inside and not subject to corrossion.
: Most I have seen are a heavy gage plastic with steel springs. Would be
: worth looking into.
