: I am getting ready to do the end pours on my Coho. After spending alot of
: time trying to keep the weight down on my boat, the idea of pouring
: several ounces of resin in the bow and stern doesn't seem very efficient.
: Has anyone tried to lighten the end pours with microballoons, glass fiber,
: or another additive? Any comments, or am I getting obsessive?

: I may be overly sensitive to the hull weight issue, but my experience in
: boating is that the easier the boat is to car-top and launch the more it
: will get used.

I have minimal experience here, but it seems to me that end pours are slightly gross tactic to achieve a solid end or closing off hard to read areas.

What about doing it before closing up a la the babina and greenly seam approach. Say you laid in a bunch of thickened glass or mush to 1/2in thick or more around this whole area, making it say 1in thick at the seams. After setting up, sand or file across the mush so it is exactly flat, making a wide flange for the epoxy to glue across. Inside pre glue i/s seam mat'l up to this area. I guess the question is will it fail along the glue lines when bonking against an obstacle. My guess is that prob not - espec w/ the o/s seam. Sounds way more controllable and structural.
