I did precoat on both the deck and hull, so that wasn't the problem. I hadn't let it soak in the cloth enough before squeegeeing it off.

I like the precoat method, I put the resin on, let it soak in a little bit, then squeegee it off so the wood is just wet, no excess. It seals the wood and if there are any problems (Glue not completely sanded, etc) they will show up before I get the glass on. I hope this doesn't start another pre-coat/no precoat war.
