: I'm actually thinking about building a Coho next and am thinking about making
: it as light as possible, meaning 3.2 ounce triaxial glass, etc. My
: question is this, any idea what kind of glass lay-up he had on his Coho?
: I'm assuming he had a plywood bulkhead. Thanks in advance, and if you
: don't know, then thanks for the info, your post was quite timely and
: important and gives me something to consider.

: a Coho

He was an average weight person 160lb, with 100lbs of stuff and very rough use. The layup was the regular 6oz on both sides. If you are serious about making this boat light then I'd re-think very light glass and simply make SURE your application is as frugal with epoxy as necessary. The bottom of this kayak can be surprisingly flexible given the shallow angle at the keel. I don't think minicell bulkheads would be lighter than plywood. Although if you are making the bottom even more flexible with light glass then minicell bulkheads would be good. Not using hatches or bulkheads would make more sense than 3.2oz cloth as a lightening method.
