Hi, I am currently doing this ( on a Guillemot ). I use only a spokeshave. If you hold it at an angle it works great, removes a lot of timber (if you want it to) and leaves a nice finish. In some areas I had big steps between the strips ( I didn't use bead/cove ) and the tool took the high edges off very quickly. The spokeshave I use is flat-bottomed. I do have a curved one but find it very tricky to use, it either does nothing or digs in.

The only place I have difficulty with is within stem/stern areas. I can't find ANYTHING which will fit in there !!
