Getting a fan to blow the fumes out of the cellar is great. Beware, however, of running the furnace or hot water heater (if they are in the basement and not power vented) because the "vacuum" you create in the cellar may draw the exhaust fumes INTO the cellar instead of letting them get drawn up the chimney. This could create an even worse scenario than the polyester fumes: death from carbon monoxide poisoning. Fortunately this isn't the heating season so it shouldn't be a problem to shut off the units until you remove the fan.

Just a word of warning.
