In Response To: narrowing b&c strips (John Waddington)

: I have a good pile of 3/4" x 3/16" bead and cove strips which I
: purchased, but I did not order enough benders (1/2" or 5/8" x
: 3/16"). I would like to take the bead off a few of these for making
: narrower sheer strips that will bend more easily than the full 3/4"
: ones. I don't want to damage the cove of the strips while I am taking off
: the bead. Anyone have a suggestion?

At this stage you should have a few scraps. rip or plane a couple of these shorter pieces to remove the coved edge, giving you a flat side. make all of these exactly the same width. Shove the beaded edge of these scraps into the coves on the good strips you wish to trim, and by filling the coves they should protect them during your additional operations.

You can make a new table top for your tablesaw by clamping on a piece of 3/4 inch plywood. After it is on the top of the table saw, turn on hte saw and slowly raise the blade through the plyood, giving you zero clearance slot. Screw a scrap piece of a wood strip to the plywood and use that as the fence for cutting your other strips. Run the cove edge of the good strip along the bead on the the screwed-down scrap piece. A few pieces of paper under that scrap strip (put in before the screws are thoroughly tightened) will raise it enough so your good strips won't bind.
