Alternative Stapleless?? (New Product)

Hi All;

I found this on the Internet, emailed the company for samples, and they arrived today. The product is called "GlueDots" and it looks to be a darn sight nicer than that %$@! hot glue. I don't know how y'all feel, but to me, hot glue is an inferior product waiting (begging?) for a better solution.

GlueDots are self adhesive dots of glue that are provided on a roll of slippery paper mounted in a cardboard dispenser. You simply pull out the roll, place the exposed gluedot in place, press on the paper backing to affix it, and pull the paper away. Then (in our case) you press the wood strip over the dot and it's stuck there!

They are available in low, medium, high, and super high tack versions. You can order them in sizes ranging from 3/8" to 3/4" dia, and in 3 different thicknesses. In the short time I've tested them so far, the "thin" dots work the best, as the thicker dots allow a bit of flex side-to-side, and we want our strips as close to the forms as possible anyway. The thin dots are about 1/16" or less thick.

As to "tack," the "super high tack" dots really do hold that strip tightly. If you used too many dots, removing the forms might be a chore. I use very little hot glue, but these dots are so easy to stick on . . . ;-)

My feelings at this time would probably lean toward thin, high tack, 3/8 - 1/2" dots. And I would put the hot glue gun back in the drawer. To remove them, you just roll them off the surface with your thumb, much like hot glue. They cost about $24 for 1,000, or $46 for 4,000 in a dispenser. I would think we'd use a couple hundred tops for a kayak.

If you check out their web site (below), please let me know what you think - - We still need duct tape, but these dots might make the job easier . . .

Best Regards, Spidey
