I just finished up my cradles in the same style as Ross's. I ended up using 1/16" birch plywood laminated 5 times with the grain going the length of the cradle. The wood had to be steamed in order to get it pliable enough to bend around the curves for my hardchine CLC yak. They look great and I just glued the minicell foam to the top of them for padding.

haven't tried them out yet but perhaps next week. hope to get pictures up one of these days.
