It's a year around concern in New England. I'm a Diver and don't recall ocean temps above mid 50's in the peak of summer. It's hard to get past your knees without real pain! I go scollop diving in November and december, I dove once in a full 1/4" (6mm)wet suit and was good for 1 hour and was chilled to the bone. I now dive DRY! The little 3mm and less suits made for paddling just don't cut it even in summer if you wet exit! Shawn, you can get a diving hood for about $20 they work great. Dry hoods for diving aren't much more.
