Hi Kent, I agree with Paul, with the recessed padeyes, you've got plenty of options, and you can change your mind.

I also agree with Spidey--clean decks look nice, but for functionality, you need grab lines, bow and stern. Shiny varnished decks are very slippery when wet, and if you, or a partner is swimming beside the boat, trying to grab on, there is nothing to take hold of unless you're right at the cockpit or at the bow or stern. Deck lines don't look pretty, but they're safer.

I also think diagonal bungies suck. I put them on my Chesapeake (the boat on the left), because I didn't know any better. I think straight side-to-side is much better for a paddle park, holding your chart, a deckbag, or a water bottle. Personally, I'm starting to carry more and more gear inside the cockpit, and less on deck--less to lose in the event of a big wave. My brother (Chesapeake on the right) just has decklines, and I told him he should install straight bungies.
