Hi Kevin,

Don't know if this helps, so take it with a gain of salt, as I don't know squat about types of foam ... our local wal-mart has a "stair stepper" block of foam in the sporting goods dept. (made by Bollinger, I think). This is a solid block of foam, about 15" x 24" x 5 1/2" for $14. ( I didn't have a ruler with me). I think it is closed-cell (like camping pads) and seemed firm, but not overly firm. Maybe this will help if you don't want to go "mail order" ... but it was a fairly ugly color like robin's egg blue (cover it with rip-stop nylon for a custom color)? P.S. how thick should the bottom of a seat be in a "sit-in" kayak? An inch or two?
