Thank you all for all the replies to my post about 1\8" oak for hull material. I got so much great information, I thought I would try again. I live in Detroit. I am having a terrible time finding 1\8" plywood. 1\4" is too hard to bend. I have found a place that sells oak or birch, I would really like to use mahogany or luan. I dont want to pay the astronomical prices for marine plywood, I know regular plywood will hold up just fine. My first kayak has 1/4" b-c pine plywood hull. Yes it weighs a ton, but it actually came out very nice anc is holding up very well. (It is a tank) I can only find West System epoxy, and only two stores that sell it.I cant find any other brands of epoxy anywhere! I want to try MAS. I used West System on my first kayak, I dont really have any complaints about it. Hopefully someone out there lives around the Detroit area and knows thier way around better than I do!!
