I was very careful when I made my Guillemot, but a few of 10' strips became twisty/curvey before I used them, so they were useless. Between that and the little bits that you have to waste, I used about 1200' in all. Mixing colours in patterns means that you have more left over as well, since you have start with a bit extra of each colour. If you are in the middle of a dark pattern, it doesn't help if all that you have left is 20' of light coloured wood.
