I have used something similar to duct tape called Gaffers tape. It is mainly used in the theater industry and it looks like black duct tape. It holds just as well and does not leave any residue. It is more expensive than duct tape, at least where I got it, but it saves you time cleaning residue. I purchased mine from Lee Valley Tools, but I'm sure that you could probably find it locally cheaper.
