Duct tape goo

I am getting close to starting the stripping of my Guillemot. I think I will try to go stapleless but I may fall off my wagon if it takes too long. But a question... those of you with the duct tape (Spidey and others, I appreciate the pictures) do you have trouble removing the duct tape and leaving goo behind on the wood? Does it clean up easily? How? Also (I know this has been asked and answered elsewhere but I can't find it) how do you hold the first strips in place? I have some scrap from when I cut the strips. I was thinking of stapling or nailing the scrap to the forms as strips to butt the shear strips up against. Seems pretty straight forward to me but I worry when things seem too easy (I am an engineer in the electronics manufacturing industry and we specialize in making things harder than they should be!)

thanks

Chris
