In Response To: "feathering" a kayak paddle (Quent)

Hi Quent;

I came up with one way to do the feathering, it is shown on my kayak page link below, just follow the "paddle" link. One thing I did not put up yet is the means of joining the 2 oval cross sections. After you've viewed the plans, this might make more sense - -

I turned a black walnut lamination to the smaller radius of the ovals. It is about 2" long, and has the same 1/2" dowel thru-hole as the shafts. This will mount between the paddle halves with the dowel running from one 1/2 shaft, through the black walnut "spacer," and into the other shaft. I did this because it will allow me to easily fair the oval shaft to the round spacer. As the feathering angle is changed (before glueup) it will look proper and fit perfectly at all angles.

Hope this helps, Best Regards, Spidey
