Chris,

I agree with Shawn. I've built three kayaks, one 40 pounder and two 33 pounders. Which ones do you think I reach for first to put up on top of my truck when I want to go paddling? That seven pounds makes a difference when you are holding a 17 foot long kayak over your head to put on top of a vehicle.

You can hit the target weight without sacrificing strength, if you are careful.
