Lee, not a bad suggestion. That's one of the many beautiful places we have to paddle around here. There's also an excellent outfitter in Sausalito (Sea Trek) that rents very high-quality fiberglass and kevlar boats (seems most others around here only rent plastic).

The tidal currents in the Bay can be tricky though. There are spots where the current speed routinely exceeds the speed I (or most people) can paddle. So as someone who's new to kayaking (6 month's experience) I'm pretty cautious about where I go on the Bay. Some spots around Angel Island are on my list to places to beware of until I hone my skills a bit more.

That still leaves a myriad of choices that range from urban sights (like city skylines and ritzy marinas) to peaceful, natural settings with lots of wildlife. Thanks, as always, for the suggestions. Peter
