I built an Expedition Single using Cypress and Mahogany in the deck. Wish I had a picture of it digitized to attach. Lacking that, take my word for it, she's very attractive. Carl is most likely corrrect, in that it is slightly heavier than many other wood species you could use, however I found it easy to work with in addition to the other attributes you mentioned. The natural light and dark pattern in the wood goes well with mahogany.

Anyone attempting to build a wooden boat in south Louisiana and not using at least some cypress would surely be exiled to Texas or some other deserving destination for anyone so foolish. Be warned, that may also be true for a Floridian. Good luck!!
