You can use the template provided, move it about 1" forward of its intended location and 1/2" to each side when you draw the front half then move it back to the intended location to draw the back half, then you can free hand the difference between each half.

Or you can place the forward end 1" forward and rotate the back out to make it 1/2" wider.
