Craig:

First the disclaimer - I'm a complete novice working on my first S&G, a CLC Chesapeake LT16. We (my wife and I) just glassed the hull about a week ago and the technique we used worked very well for us. Temperatures in our garage were about 70 degrees, so that was on our side.

Anyway, we wet out the cloth using cheap 2" brushes. A little dab at a time. It took the two of us nearly 3 hours to wet it all out (that's 6 person-hours), but there were no runs or air bubbles. Within 24 hours my wife put on the next coat, which only took her 45 minutes this time. Third and fourth coats also took about 45 minutes each. We ended up with pretty nice results. I've heard so many people mention squeegying, but I can't picture putting that much extra epoxy on and then trying to maneuver it around without pushing and pulling the cloth all over the place. Anyway, that was just our experience.

I think the most important advice I've heard about temperatures is that the temp. should be going down (not up) as the epoxy cures to avoid out-gassing from the wood which could cause air bubbles.

Good luck and hope it warms up there soon. Having no patience is one of my biggest problems.

Peter
