Hi Spidey,

Welcome aboard.

Nice job on the paddle - that is something else I have to do this winter.

You made a couple of comments about your bandsaw (I liked your abbreviation) but did not elaborate what the problem was.

Unless the saw is physically inadequate, the problems with bandsaws typically fall into two categories, incorrect/worn out blade or out-of -tune/dirty bandsaw.

If the saw is having difficulty cutting the blade is most likely the problem. The blade style has to suit the cut to be done. The blades that are sold in the blister packs are typically terrible - they are of poor quality and do not have sufficient set. Look into buying commercial blades, check the catalogs for the recommended style for the application you have. I use Starrett blades, they are about $11.00 CNDN each - not bad considering that the lousy blister-pack blades are around $16.00 each. A good general cleaning and lube make a big difference. That and make sure that the drive wheel tire is clean and in reasonable condition.

If the saw cutting well but you are having difficulty controlling it then you have to get into a bit of tuning. Tuning is a bit beyond a quick post to explaining it here - there are a couple of good books available on the subject. I have the one from the Lee Valley catalog - think it was by a Mark Delanski (sp?).

Anyway, the bandsaw has become one of my favorite power tools - don't give up on yours, it may just need a bit of TLC and a new blade.

Hope this helps.

Hank
