Hello All;

I think the fever has struck - - I'm going to build a kayak. For a few months I've been following threads on this board and y'all haven't helped any - - That is, reading your posts has caused me to spend money on books, tools, wood, etc.! Every day I get closer to the true "construction launch."

My name is Ken, but since there already is a poster here named Ken, I'll use my nickname "Spidey." I am a hobbyist woodworker, with a nominal collection of tools, working out of my garage in Sarasota Florida. We have many, many miles of coastline to explore down here, most of it totally inaccessible to power boats because of the shallow waters. Been there, done that.

I began building a paddle, as suggested by Nick as a means to get started. It's been fun and moved along quickly, and I have a temporary page up at http://www.dbeweb.com/kayak/pages/paddle.html for anyone wishing to see more pix of the construction project. Without the glass & epoxy (next step), Nick's design weighs in at less than 2.4 lbs, and looks great.
