Another BC resident who has used the ferries on several occasions. A lot of the time it depends on the run you are taking. The mid-island from Tsawassen to Duke Point will always charge for overheight but most of the time the trip to Swartz Bay won't. They will get you on the Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo run most of the time. Any of the trips on the smaller ferries, you should expect the overheight charge. Cost is only about $10 extra so I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think I'd ever attempt to tie a boat onto the side of a vehicle unless you have a real skinny car considering the lane widths on the ferries. Alan
