Hi Rick,

I'm also from Beautiful British Columbia. Make sure you check out the laws on overhangs on your vehicle.

Another idea, if you have a pick-up, is to make a rack that sits down below the height of the cab at the front with an attachment that fastens to the trailer hitch at the rear. You would then have the kayak sitting just above the level of the box.

Obviously, the overhang is still a problem, but easier to deal with on the back with a small light hung from the back of the kayak and wired to the park lights.

The overheight problem on the ferry is something I have been thinking about as I want to tour the Queen Charlotte Islands and take the Port Hardy- Prince Rupert ferry in the process. Could do a walk on but then I would have to take the ferry back and I want to drive down and do some sight seeing.
