Be careful about creating an airtight seal. As your yak heats up the air can cause great presure to build up inside. If you use bungie to hold the covers on, the air can probably push it enough to vent, but when it starts to cool you have the opposite problem (large vacuum).

Some commercial manufactures have started putting a pin hole in their bulkheads to prevent VCP hatches from popping off or collapsing inward.
