My Methadone Program

My project for the winter is building new kitchen cabinets. Some how it’s just not the same and I suspect before long I’ll be looking to “score” another boat project. I love projects that let me justify buying new tools. The kitchen cabnets qualifies by letting me get some fancy router bits and a router table for the raised panels. But it still doesn’t compare to the high I was getting from building the Guillemot last winter.

Cabinets are an all power tool affair and I really miss quietly shaving cedar strips with a really sharp block plane or fairing with a spoke shave. Secondly your always under the tyranny of square. So many right angles. In boat building the shape of long fair curves are so pleasing to look at.

Clearly this cabnet project is my “methadone program”…. it stops the shakes but still leaves me longing for that old high. Somehow I can't invision spending time on a kitchen cabinet BBS dicussing issues in this depth and I will be back building another kayak
