Drawing a blank here i turned to a dictionary and encyclopedia for answers. Basically what i found is that a kayak is a type of canoe. historicly was built skin on frame and sealed to the waist of the paddler and propelled with a double -bladed paddle. no argument here with that. in both the definition and ency. reference to kayak the text keeps refering to it as a canoe, with the main difference being that a kayak is sealed at the waist and a canoe is not. So, this leads me to the assumption the a "decked canoe" is of kayak-like construction which doesn't require a sprayskirt. Now if i can just keep my canoe buddies from scoffing at me when i paddle the yare without a sprayskirt. I keep tellin them that kayaks are better and now i learn that i've been paddling a canoe all this time. This is too depressing, wonder what my old freind Jose Cuervo has to say bout this........
